Gil Belles COFAC Distinguished Friend 2009

Gilbert Belles, professor emeritus of Western Illinois University, received the 2009 Distinguished Friend of the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Award.
The award was presented to Belles prior to the Al Sears' headliner concert with Karrin Allyson in the COFAC Recital Hall. The Recital Hall was an appropriate place for Gil to receive the award. It was Gil’s lead gift that inspired the renovation of the Recital Hall Green Room. The Green Room is officially named the Performing Arts Society Green Room in Honor of Gil Belles.
"Gil's generosity and enthusiasm for the college made this award an easy choice," said Dean Paul Kreider. "He was a hard working member of the Performing Arts Society (PAS) for six years, but his dedication to the PAS extends beyond his board duties to substantial financial support of the organization as well.

COFAC Awards and Promotions
The College started the year off right with a luncheon to welcome everyone back and to celebrate COFAC Award winners and faculty promotions. The 2009 COFAC FACULTY AWARDS awards were presented by Paul Kreider, Dean, to the following:

- ROBERT QUESAL, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Outstanding Scholarly Activity Award
- JAMES ROMIG, School of Music, Outstanding Creative Activity Award
It should be noted that John Miller and Robert Quesal also received the university wide Provost's Awards for Service and Scholarly Activity.

COFAC also celebrated faculty tenure and promotions. Jason Conner, Theatre & Dance, and Damon McArthur, Art, both received tenure. Jason Conner, Theatre & Dance; Damon McArthur, Art; and Kevin Nichols, School of Music were promoted to Associate Professor. William Howard, Art; Peter Jorgensen, Communication; Christine Lapka, School of Music; Lisa Miczo, Communication; and Moises Molina, School of Music were all promoted to Professor.

Palkovic is McMurdie Scholar for 2009
Alexandra Palkovic, junior, Peoria, was awarded the 2009-2010 Maughan and Dorothy McMurdie Musical Theatre Scholarship. She received the award at the conclusion of the BFA Musical Theatre Showcase concert on October 11. Alex performed "The Man that Got Away" from A Star is Born and "It's Never That Easy/I've Been Here Before" from Closer Than Ever with Anna Zerwer.

Alex is the voice student of Kitty Karn.
