UNICOM REUNION — AN AMAZING WEEKEND!

UNICOM

This past weekend a group of long-lost friends reunited in Macomb. What brought these folks together were their shared experiences in a student organization called UNICOM-Television while they were broadcasting students at Western Illinois University. Linda Kuntz-Kotowski and Toni Fitch had worked on this reunion for about a year.

Al Konieczka set up a UNICOM website and fellow UNICOM-ers posted pictures. The UNICOM sign was recreated and 3/4-inch video was burned to DVD. This group of 11 or 12 friends arrived on Friday evening and began to catch up on old times. And many of them had a lot of catching up to do given that most of the group graduated in 1984. And most of the alums had not been back to Macomb and Western Illinois University in over 20 years. Although many people think that Macomb never changes, it does and the alums enjoyed visiting old haunts and also finding that some of their favorite spots were no longer in business.

PAC DESIGN SCHEMATICS AVAILABLE TO VIEW

PAC watercolor image

Western Illinois University personnel and community members got to see what the proposed Performing Arts Center facility would look like and how it would fit into the southwest quadrant of campus during an Aug. 19 presentation of the schematic design. These designs can be viewed at Performing Arts Center.

Charles Smith of O'Donnell, Wicklund, Pigozzi, and Peterson (OWP/P) of Chicago and Phoenix, the lead architectural firm; and Mitch Hirsch of Pelli Clarke Pelli (PCP) of New Haven, CT, the building designer firm, were on campus to make the presentations.

PAS

The PAS Gala 007 began with a terrific "spoof" of everyone's favorite, James Bond, Agent 007. University Television outdid themselves with a hilarious "spoof" script and outstanding performances by some of the College's favorite people. Mick Cumbie stars as Bond, and none other than Gordy Taylor stars as the evil Gordfinger. Other local talent includes Gene Kozlowski as the ingenious Q, and Paul Kreider as M. Louise Reynolds is Moneypenny, and Laura Leezer stars as Agent 003.

It's a 12 ½ minute video. If you think you've already seen this, take another look. UTV has edited a slightly different ending into the clip. If you haven't already seen the video, do yourself a favor and take a look. It is really quite clever, and you might recognize some of your old friends in the college and in Macomb.

The PAS South Pacific Gala 2008, Some Enchanted Evening, will be Saturday, November 8, 2008. Plans are underway right now to bring another fabulous evening and "don't miss" silent auction to the community. More information to come in the October enewsletter or call 309.298.1618 for answers to your questions now.
