Western Illinois Athletics Reinvests in University through Broadcasting Efforts

The Western Illinois University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will reinvest in the university as it has developed a long-range partnership with the Department of Broadcasting beginning with the 2009-10 season.
The Leatherneck Sports Network and Department of Broadcasting join talent and resources to offer both educational opportunities and professional development through live broadcasts of men’s and women’s athletic events on WIUS 88.3 FM.
The
Broadcasting Department is now the sole provider of Leatherneck media. The agreement between athletics and broadcasting continues for TV coverage and is available streaming live on Rocky Vision pay per view.
Broadcasting students have covered every single intercollegiate football, volleyball, soccer, softball, baseball, swim meet, cross country, and golf events on campus for the past two years. They have also covered every conference championship on TV. They have covered every away football game by sending two announcers and camera person to every game.
By 2010-11 broadcasting will cover every home and away football game; every men’s and women’s basketball game; every volleyball game; and every softball game. These hands-on opportunities strengthen the sports broadcasting program at WIU. No program anywhere else in the country gives students so many opportunities to do sports broadcasting.
