On August 13, 2009 ZVirginia Broffitt performed on the American Composers Concert at the National Flute Association Convention in New York, NY. The convention hosted over 5,000 attendees.

Anita Werling was the recipient of the Outstanding First Year Experience Faculty Award for 2008-2009. She teaches a section of Music 190 What to Listen for in Music each semester.

She also taught and performed in recital at American Guild of Organists Pipe Organ Encounter held in Chicago and the western suburbs June 14-19. This is an intensive program for teenagers which includes daily lessons and practice time as well as field trips and recitals.

Bruce Briney participated in his sixteenth season as a member of the Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin. The annual festival celebrated its 58th season with 9 concerts during the first three weeks of August. Led by conductor Victor Yampolsky, the PMF orchestra is comprised of orchestral musicians from around the nation and hosts a roster of international soloists.

Matt Warnock was named an associate editor and member of the board of advisers for Guitar International Magazine. The magazine will launch in mid-September 2009.

Alum Jeremy Smith is Promoted by BMI

BMI promotes Smith By NashvillePost.com People Dept. Broadcast Music Inc. has promoted Jeremy Smith to senior director of financial and operational analysis and licensing. In his new role, Smith will oversee the forecasting and budget process of BMI’s licensing department. Smith was promoted to director of research and analysis and licensing in July of 2005 after joining BMI in 1994 as a title researcher in the operations department and moving up the ranks. He holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University 1994.

Smith is married to alum Julie Butler Smith, BA Music Ed 1995.

The Western Illinois University School of Music & WIU Alumni Association present the Quad Cities Collage Concert and Alumni & Friends Social!

Join us for a spectacular concert featuring the four School of Music major ensembles—WIU University Singers, Jazz Studio Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra.

See them all in one concert! September 24, 2009 at 7:30 PM at Moline High School, 3600 Avenue of the Cities. The Concert is $5 for adults and free for students.

Join us for the QC Alumni & Friends Social Before the Concert. The social is hosted by College of Fine Arts and Communication Dean Paul Kreider, School of Music Director Bart Shanklin, and Alumni Director Amy Spelman '98. Meet us at the Highland Park Bowl, 4204 Avenue of the Cities from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Social, pizza buffet and cash bar - $10. Social, pizza buffet, cash bar and concert ticket - $15
