WIU Rhythm Section Festival

Three cheers for the trio! The Western Illinois University Jazz Rhythm Section Day is an annual event that celebrates the heartbeat of jazz, the jazz trio. This event is an educational opportunity open to WIU students, music educators, and high school students in the region. The festival includes a schedule of clinics and workshops by our guest artists, specifically designed to help students with jazz rhythm section performance techniques.
This year, the featured group will be the Michael Weiss Trio. Michael’s group will do master classes and work with WIU student groups in the small group experience and perform on a late afternoon concert April 6th, 2013.
Tentative schedule:
9:30 – 11:35 AM WIU Small Group Clinics (Browne Hall 130)
1:00 – 1:45 PM Master classes – Piano (Michael Weiss), Drums (George Fludas), Bass (Lorin Cohen) Room locations to be announced)
2:00 – 2:30 PM Trio Master class (Browne Hall 130)
5:30 PM – 6:30 PM Michael Weiss Trio Concert (Browne Hall 130)

All events, including the concert, are free of charge and open to students of all ages and levels. The general public is also welcome.
