PRELIMINARY AUDITIONS


WHEN: Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 3:00-6:00 pm

WHERE: Browne Hall 130

UPDATED! WHAT TO PREPARE:

  • any art song or aria from the Baroque era, in any language
    • preferred : an uptempo piece with agility from the middle Baroque era (ca. 1630-80); pieces by the likes of John Blow, Francesco Cavalli, Giacomo Carissimi, etc.

                                    ---- OR ----

  • any art song or aria from the Classical era, in any language
    • preferred: a piece from the Classical era in German; pieces by the likes of Christoph Willibald Gluck, Niccolò Piccinni, Giuseppe Sarti, etc.
  • required: selection must be memorized and under three (3) minutes long

SIGN-UP FOR A PRELIMINARY AUDITION: 

AUDITION CALLBACKS 

WHEN/WHERE: Thursday, August 22 from 5:00-7:00 pm in Browne 130

NOTIFICATION: singers invited to callbacks will be contacted by 8:00 pm on August 20 and given further instructions to schedule a callback audition

WHAT TO EXPECT: singers will perform specific excerpts from Venus and Adonis by John Blow and/or from Der bekehrte Trunkenbold by Christoph Willibald Gluck

  • musical excerpts will be shared electronically
  • no memorization is required for callback auditions

MORE INFORMATION

SPRING 2020 REGISTRATION & REHEARSAL SCHEDULE: students cast in the spring opera production must register for MUS 109: Opera Workshop for the spring 2020 semester. The class meets T/TH from 3-6 pm; additional rehearsals may include evenings and weekends (TBA)
 
FALL 2019 OPERA WORKSHOP : musical preparation for the spring opera takes place during the fall 2019 semester. Singers cast in the spring opera are asked to sign up for MUS 109: Opera Workshop for the fall 2019 semester, if possible. However, no student will be penalized for the inability to enroll in the class for the fall term .
