Sarah grew up in Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa with a BA in History in 2012. She interned at the Grout Museum District/ Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veteran's Museum in Waterloo, Iowa. She was then hired as the assistant exhibit curator for the Grout Museum.

"I have been passionate about pursuing a career in the field of museums since high school and I am excited to make history come alive for others. I believe that history tells the story of where we come from, how we got to where we are, and how we are all connected in one way or another. My ultimate career goal is to work in the curatorial or education department in a history museum in the Midwest."
