Nicole Pierson, MS, CCC-SLP joined the WIU Speech Pathology and Audiology faculty in 2017. Nicole teaches/ has taught SPA100 (Introduction to Communication Disorders), SPA312 (Normal Language Development), SPA515 (Autism and Other Special Populations) and SPA521 (Public School Methods for SLPs).

In addition to teaching, Nicole provides clinical supervision for undergraduate and graduate clinicians assigned to pediatric clients at the WIU Speech and Language Clinic, and supervises graduate student clinicians at the West Central Illinois Special Education Cooperative. Nicole has experience working with preschool- 4th grade students with a variety of speech and language impairments. Her professional interests include developmental language disorders, neurodiverse populations, sensory processing, self regulation, and interdisciplinary approaches to maximizing each child's potential.

Nicole is committed to pro-neurodiverse approaches to intervention. This means that neurodiversity is valued, and each child honored as a person. Neurodiverse populations are not expected to meet neurotypical development expectations and EVERY child is treated with respect.

Nicole obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Western Illinois University in 2009 and 2013. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) in Organizational Justice, Equity and Inclusion.

Nicole is licensed to practice in the state of Illinois, holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and holds the professional educator's license (PEL).
