Learn, Use and Produce:

  • Utilize your skills as a musician to produce a high production video for live streaming
  • State of the art equipment and software
  • Marketing videos

The Live Streaming Camp combines a knowledge of music with state of the art video production equipment to produce a live video of a musical concert. Students will form production teams consisting of Director, Technical Director, Audio Engineer, and Streaming Engineer. This camp will also incorporate a project for marketing, utilizing video and audio elements. Students will use current software and hardware to live-stream concurrent Summer Music Institute jazz, choir and string concerts by the end of the week.


  • Read/Understand musical notation
  • Know instrument groups and individual instruments
  • General high and low points to a musical performance like a climax, thin textured sections, solo, soli, etc. 
  • When to show a performers face, body or full instrument's section
  • Open to students Grade 7-12 (Entering Fall 2018)

Suggested materials to be brought and used by you throughout the week: Smart Phone/Device (tablet, iPad, iPod), Laptop, DSLR Video Camera, Digital Camera.

2019 Live Streaming Camp Instructor: Phil Weiss


Phil Weiss is a graduate of Western Illinois University twice, with a bachelor's degree in Communication, and a master's degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Administration, with an emphasis in marketing.

Phil has over 20 years of experience in video, photography, and editing, and has been excited to see the field evolve through time. When he's not behind a camera, Phil is with his family, likely hiking in the woods, or at a band concert.
