Gangnam Style Hits WIU

It has 300 million plus views on youtube, and according to Apple, is predicted to be the most bought song on itunes. The craze of Gangnam style, a hit single produced and performed by South Korea’s very own Psy, has hit Western Illinois University in more ways than one. This song is located in the genre of music called K-POP, which is Korean Pop Music. The music video for Gangnam style is Psy dancing as if he is riding a horse. Some say that the idea for this song is not cool at all. However, that is not what the many positive reviews of WIU students are saying.

The song has been playing all over campus, from dorms, to theatrical performances. During the V-Show, everyone put their hands together and started galloping on their imaginary horses as Gangnam Style was playing. Andrew McCormick, a senior at WIU states, “I am a huge fan of K-POP, and Gangnam style has really opened a lot of doors for other K-POP artists to reach the international audience, and Psy has given not just WIU, but America as whole, a brand new genre of music that was never really popular in the states.” Many other WIU students have had positive responses to the Gangnam Style craze that been setting trends, and opening the minds of so many people worldwide.

Gangnam Style was only released 3 months ago and has had the fast growing international audience population in music history. Many WIU students are now giving K-POP a try, and with the number of KPOP lovers growing so rapidly, K-POP fans will surely be expecting great things from Psy in the future.
