WESL Learning Pays Off

Western’s English As A Second Language, or WESL, traveled to Peoria today, and by the looks of all of the students who went, it is safe to say that the trip was a great success, and everyone had a very enjoyable experience. One of the WESL students, Miao Hui stated, “I want to call this trip, a day in the life of the American trip.” The purpose of this trip was to give the international students who a learning english a break from school, but still continue to their learning by taking them out into a city-like area where their skills in reading, writing a speaking would be tested. The instructors at WESL wanted to see how much the english skills of their students had improved.

One of the WESL instructors, Steven Kaesdorf, was really looking forward to how much his students have grown when it comes to their english skills. Steven states that he was very excited to see his students talking to cashiers, clerks and various store workers, when they needed help with picking out something to buy, or asking where something was. “I was very pleased with how well my students were speaking. Their skills are of course not perfect, but so far, they have exceeded all of my expectations, and I expect the best from all of my students, and all students of WESL.” The WESL instructors are very passionate about their work and aren’t in it for the money, but for the satisfaction in knowing that they have helped their students to become better competitors in this country, as well as abroad, through knowing the english language.
