Elections are Over. Time to Think of 2014?
Hey, the 2012 election is over, time to start planning for 2014!
WIU alum and current Illinois State Senator Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) has said he'll be running in the Republican primary for the gubernatorial nomination, again.
The last time he ran (2010), he lost the nomination to Bill Brady (who went on to lose to Gov. Pat Quinn).
Before he ever was elected to the state Senate (first time was back in 1994), he served under Governor Jim Edgar as Chief of Staff. Edgar endorsed his 2010 bid. Dillard had also worked for Governor Jim Thompson. He currently represents parts of DuPage and Will Counties, in Chicago's suburbs.
Dillard earned his B.A. in Political Science and Economics at Western a long time ago (1977). He's also sort of a member of the alumni council. (He's an "ex officio" member. Merriam Webster says "ex officio" means "by virtue or because of an office." What it means in the case of WIU's alumni council, you got me.)
And he's also been a Distinguished Alumni Award recipient (1997). The award "recognizes alumni who have reached the pinnacle of their careers." I suppose if he's going to run for governor again, Dillard hopes that isn't quite true.
Dillard in 2014?!
Dillard ran before in 2010. It didn't work out.
