Derrick Rose Returns after game Hiatus to lead Bulls over Pistons 96-81

Derrick Rose had not played in the United Center in 18 months. His return got the fans chanting “MVP” the whole game. Rose finished with 22 points on 6 of 9 shooting. He was also 9 of 10 from the free throw line. The leading scorer had fans on edge and for good reason.

Besides his long-awaited return to the United Center Rose missed their previous pre-season game in Rio De Janeiro against the Wizards. This had fans concerned but head coach Tom Thibodeau reassured that it was only some soreness in the knee and was to be expected. The Bulls are going to tread lightly with Rose, meaning they expect him to have some days off. Rose tore his ACL last season so there is much hype to the start of the Chicago Bulls 2013-2014 campaign.

The Detroit Pistons will be in contention for a playoff spot this season. New players Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings, and Chauncey Billups look to help out big men Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. Smith finished with 9 points while Drummond chipped in 10 boards.

Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler sat out with left knee contusion. The Chicago Bulls regular season starts October 29 against the reigning champs Miami Heat.
