IMPORTANT -- PLEASE READ!

Instructions for Participation in the May 11, 2008 Commencement Ceremony At the i wireless Center (formerly The MARK of the Quad Cities)

There will be no graduation rehearsals so please read the information below carefully. The combined graduate/undergraduate ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the i wireless Center, 1201 River Drive, in Moline. Please be in line no later than 2:30 p.m. Doors into the arena will open at 2:15 p.m.

Upon Arrival to the i wireless Center: Report to the conference rooms located just off the lobby. There will be signs and staff present to assist you. In the conference rooms, pick up your name card and Commencement program.

The address on the name card is where your diploma and complimentary transcript will be mailed. Please contact the information area the day of Commencement or the Registrar’s Office 309/298-1891, ext. 224 Monday after Commencement if there is an error. The cards are not returned to our office, so changing the address on the name card does not change our records.

After picking up your name card, put on your cap and gown and line up behind the sign for your department. It is not necessary to line up alphabetically. If you are a secondary education major, you will line up and sit with the appropriate major. (i.e. history education majors sit with history).

Tassels are placed on the right side of your cap. When degrees are conferred, move your tassel to the left side. No decorations or writing may be added to your cap and gown.

Once the Ceremony Begins: Marshals dressed in purple caps and gowns will direct the graduates, faculty and stage party throughout the ceremony. Follow their directions at all times and always follow the person ahead of you.

Once your row is filled, remain standing for the singing of the National Anthem; gentlemen are asked to remove their caps.

Receiving Your Diploma Cover: A marshal will come to release your row and direct you to the stage. When you reach the ramp, walk up to the stage and hand your name card to the reader at the podium who will read your name as you walk across the stage. You will shake hands with several University dignitaries, receive a diploma cover, and have a professional photograph taken. Proceed down the stairs and back to your seat following the person ahead of you.

As you pose for your professional photograph, please hold your diploma cover in an upright position with the school seal facing toward the camera.

At the End of the Ceremony: Once the music begins, marshals will lead out the stage party, faculty and students. A reception will be held in the lobby following the ceremony.

Attending Commencement Does Not Guarantee Graduation: All academic requirements must be complete and all paperwork on file in the Registrar’s Office by May 23, 2008 before a student receives his or her diploma.

No Alcohol Permitted: Anyone in possession of alcohol will be immediately removed from the i wireless Center.

Congratulations on your Graduation!
