UHDS Employees Temporarily Moved
The front office area of Seal Hall will
be closing Monday, March 5 for remodeling. To accomodate
students and staff, two UHDS employees will be temporarily located
in the Student Assistance Center. They are Paula Clark
and Charleen Huston.
All ID card and meal plan issues, with the
exception of buying meal plan points, will be handled by Clark
in the Student Assistance Center starting Friday, March 2.
Purchase of meal plan points, will be the same as in the past,
through Stars or directly purchased at Seal Hall. Huston is also
available to discuss housing issues.
Questions and/or problems created by this
move should be sent to Jack Schoonover at 135 Seal Hall
or 298-3320.
Research Council Announces
Contest
The University Research Council announces
its Spring 2001 competition. The deadline is noon, Thursday,
April 5. The original plus 10 copies of the completed application
must be delivered to the Office of Sponsored Projects at 320 Sherman
Hall. Copies of the application package may be obtained from department
chairs or at the Office of Sponsored Projects.
Family Fun Night Tonight
Campus Recreation will hold a "Family
Fun Night" from 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 2 at the Campus
Recreation Center. Activities include swooshball, badminton, table
tennis, big pink volleyball and basketball. The Aquatic Center
will be open. The event is open free to students and employees
with families.
Bazaar Coming March 16-17
The 28th Annual International Bazaar will
be held Friday, March 16 and Saturday March 17 in
the Union Grand Ballroom. The annual International Bazaar provides
an opportunity for students, University faculty and staff and
community members to experience from 15-25 different cultures
and their foods without leaving the United States. The two-day
event features entertainment, educational displays and a market
both nights and on Saturday night, an auction and a variety of
foods from the featured countries. Crowds arrive early in order
to sample as many foods as possible before the servings run out.
A special activity area for children also operates from 4-7
p.m. Saturday. Admission Friday is $4 for the public;
$3 for students; Saturday, $5 for the public and $4 for students.
Children 12 and under free.
Friendship Club Seeks
Nominees
The International Friendship Club seeks
to present an award to an individual who has made significant
contributions to the overall welfare of international students
at WIU.
Nominations for the award may be submitted
by any WIU students, employee or community member. Self-nominations
will also be accepted.
Nominations should include two to five typed
pages of information supporting the nominee. Information should
include the individual's name, address, title, telephone number
and number of years the person has worked at WIU, if the nominee
is a WIU employee. The recipient will be recognized at the 28th
Annual International Bazaar to be held March16 and 17.
Submit nominations to Belinda Carr,
Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center, 298-2220, by Friday, March
2.

OSP To Present Workshop
The staff of the Office of Sponsored Projects
will present a technical assistance workshop for those interested
in submitting proposals to the Spring 2001 University Research
Council internal grant competition.
The workshop will be held Tuesday, March
20 from 12-1 p.m. in the vice president for student
services conference room. The conference room is located next
to the Office of Sponsored Projects, 320 Sherman Hall. A light
lunch will be served.Register by calling at 298-1191.
SURS Counselors To Visit
Western
SURS counselors will be at WIU Tuesday
afternoon, April 10, and Wednesday morning, April 11.
WIU employees who plan to retire on or before April 30, 2003,
may call 298-1853 to schedule an individual conference with a
retirement specialist from the State Universities Retirement System
(SURS).
SURS limits the 30-minute appointments to
employees who have not met with a SURS counselor previously. Employees
have until March 21 to schedule an appointment and return a completed
SURS estimate form to Human Resources.
Appointments are confidential. Scheduling
an appointment does not obligate the employee to retire.
Students, Advisers Sought
For Competition
The Collegiate Inventors Competition has
added Hewlett-Packard, Corning, Inc., and Goodyear as major sponsors.
Support from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office continues. (The
competition was formerly known as the BFGoodrich Collegiate Inventors
Program. This is its 11th year.) Student winners/teams now receive
$20,000 and advisers $10,000. Full-color brochures and posters
will be available soon.
Applications must be received by June

CMS To Send Recertification
Letters
Central Management System will be sending
student recertification letters to members in early March. Recertifications
must be received by the deadline stated in the CMS letter. Members
will not receive "second notice" letters as in previous
years.
