L.I.F.E. Announces Spring Courses

L.I.F.E. (Learning Is ForEver), the non-credit program of learning opportunities for adults of all ages, has announced its Spring 2001 semester courses.

"What's That Bird?" will take participants on three birdwalks Monday, May 7, Wednesday, May 9 and Friday, May 11. The class meets from 8-9:30 a.m.

"The Hennepin Canal" consists of two class sessions on Saturdays April 21 and April 28 and an all-day field excursion along the Hennepin Canal Parkway Tuesday, May 1. Classes will be from 9:30-11 a.m. in Tillman 309.

"Antiques and Collectibles" offers a weekly lecture on several antique categories. Participants can also bring in their own treasures to discuss. Classes will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Mondays, March 19 and 26 and April 2, 9 and 16 from 10-11:30 a.m.

"Life on the Mississippi" explores the origin, history and changing habitat of the Mississippi River. Classes meet Wednesdays, April 4, 11, 18 and 25 at Citizen's National Bank from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

John Hallwas, Robert Sutton and Lillian Snyder will share their expertise during "Mormans and Icarians in Illinois." Classes will be held in the WIU Library, Mary Lou Kent Room on Tuesdays April 3, 10, 17 24 and May 1 with a field trip to Nauvoo Tuesday, May 8.

During "The Culture of China," Te Ma will lead participants through Chinese history and culture. Classes will meet at Wesley United Methodist Church Thursdays, March 22, 29 and April 3 and 17 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 11 from 1-3 p.m.

"The Armchair Traveler" allows experienced travelers to share slides, videos and comments about their travels with participants. Class will meet at Citizen's National Bank on Tuesdays March 20 and 27 and April 3 and 17 from 1:30-3 p.m. and Wednesdays, April 11 from 1-3 p.m.

"Historical Local Courthouses II" offers guided tours of four courthouses. This class entails moderate walking. Sessions will be Wednesdays, March 21 and 28 and April 4 and 11 at 10:30 a.m.

"Early Bird Computers" focuses on elementary word processing and e-mail from 7:30-9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays March 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28 in Horrabin Hall 68. Enrollment is limited to the number of terminals available.

L.I.F.E. and the WIU theatre department will sponsor two plays Wednesday, April 4, "The Tempest" at Hainline Theatre and Tuesday, April 24, "The Company" at Horrabin. The prices include a pre-performance discussion at 6:15 p.m. and play tickets.

L.I.F.E. is a self-directed group, open to anyone with an interest in learning. There are no age or educational requirements, no tests or dress codes. For more information, call 298-1864.
