Service/Awards
- John Q. Adams, educational and
interdisciplinary studies, received a 2002 Distinguished Alumni
Award from the College of Education at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign.
- Nancy DeSulis, Student Organization
Center, was named the Student Services May Administrative Employee
of the Month.
- Cindy Driskell, admissions, was
named the Student Services May Civil Service Employee of the
Month.
- Dea Forney, counselor education
and college student personnel, was named the 2002 recipient
of the Thomas M. Magoon Distinguished Alumni Award, given by
the department of counseling and personnel services at the University
of Maryland-College Park.
- Karen Helmers, admissions, was
named the Student Services April Administrative Employee of
the Month and the Student Services Administrative Employee of
the Year.
- Mary Jensen, special education,
received the Student Alumni Council Golden Apple Award for February.
- Bill Knight, English and journalism,
received a national award from the Suburban Newspapers of America,
for Best Sports
- Sharon Maroney, special education,
was awarded the Winterstein Memorial Award. The fund honors
meritorious achievement in the field of special education.
- Brent Payne, engineering technology,
was selected as an Honored Alumnus at the University of North
Texas.
- Elaine Root, admissions, was named
the Student Services April Civil Service Employee of the Month.
- Barb Ruane, QC-Library, was named
the May Civil Service Employees Council Employee of the Month.
- Rachel Sutton, financial aid, was
named the Student Services Civil Service Employee of the Year.
- Act of Kindness awards were given to Christi
Burgess, student activities; Andy Potter, student
activities; Gretchan Sullivan, graduate office; Greg
Beck, physical plant; Beryl Brooks, physical plant;
Judy John, Union; Keri Allison, Union; Kathy Cavins,
Student Services; Goldie Fugate, accounting; Mike
Hetrick, student activities; Betty LaGrange, student
development and orientation; Cindy Thompson, financial
aid; and Millie Haines, Teresa Wise, Jay Graves, Win Htu,
and Joe Kyan Zaw, all of Union Food Service.
- The Spring 2002 Top Flight Team Award
in the Division of Student Services was presented to the WIU's
undergraduate admissions counselors.
