Tri States Public Radio Fund Drive Postponed Until April 26

Tri States Public Radio has postponed its spring fundraising campaign in order to focus on providing listeners with in-depth public service programming on the war in Iraq, said General Manager Dorie Vallillo. WIUM/WIUW has rescheduled the drive to begin Saturday, April 26.

"We postponed after careful consideration," said Vallillo. "We count on listener support, but our first priority is to provide listeners with the valuable local, national and international coverage they expect from us and NPR News."

WIUM 91.3FM and WIUW 89.5FM have been airing a modified program schedule that has included comprehensive and ongoing coverage of the war in Iraq from NPR News. NPR journalists are filing from Kuwait, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Israel and Egypt. Anne Garrels has been reporting from Baghdad; Eric Westervelt and John Burnett are embedded with military units inside Iraq; and Tom Gjelten has been reporting extensively from the Pentagon. This essential coverage is made possible, in large part, because of listener support for WIUM/WIUW and other NPR member stations nationwide.

WIUM/WIUW's spring campaign goal is $43,000, stated Development Director Sharon Faust.

"Even though we have postponed our fund drive, listeners can show their support at any time by calling 309/298-1873 or 800/895-2912 or visiting our website ( to renew their membership or make a pledge," Faust added.

Tri States Public Radio will continue to provide live event coverage, news, and analysis on the war in Iraq in addition to other news stories and features as events warrant. Listeners can visit the website to get updates and read in-depth information on all the coverage from NPR News. Tri States Public Radio is a service of Western's School of Extended and Continuing Education.
