Western’s chapter
of Phi Kappa Phi, a national scholastic honor
society, invites the WIU community to “The
Problems, Challenges and Opportunities for Human
and Community Development in the Next Decade
— The Copenhagen Consensus 2004,”
from 1:30-3:30 p.m Tuesday, Oct. 19 in
Stipes Hall 121. The panel aims to create dialogue
on social, political and economic issues surrounding
the Copenhagen Consensus among Western’s
students and faculty.
According to Copenhagen
Consensus website (www.copenhagenconsensus.com),
the project was to set priorities among a series
of proposals for confronting 10 great global
challenges. These challenges, selected from
a wider set of issues identified by the United
Nations, are: civil conflicts; climate change;
communicable diseases; education; financial
stability; governance; hunger and malnutrition;
migration; trade reform; and water and sanitation.
A reception will follow
the panel discussion in Stipes Hall 527.
Phi Kappa Phi will also
host a Fall Distinguished Lecture and Recital
Tuesday,
Nov. 16 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication Recital Hall.
