Western Board Of Trustees To Consider Contracts At Nov. 5 Meeting

The Western Board of Trustees will consider contracts with the president and a collective bargaining agreement with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 at Western’s Friday, Nov. 5 meeting in the University Union Capitol Rooms.

The WIU Board will begin with the finance committee meeting starting at 8:30 a.m. The academic and student services committee meeting is scheduled to follow, at approximately 9:45 a.m.

The Board meeting will follow at approximately 11 a.m. with an executive session in accordance with the provisions of the Open Meetings Act. The open meeting will resume at approximately noon, following the executive session.

At its Sept. 10 meeting the Board attorney was authorized to draft a multi-year contract for President Al Goldfarb which would set his annual salary at $225,000, retroactive to July 1, 2004. This action was based on input received from campus groups and the evaluation of institutional goals outlined by Goldfarb following his first year as president.

A base wage increase of 3.5 percent is included in the first year of a five-year agreement with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 representing 34 employees in heating plant/mechanical maintenance classifications. For the second through fifth year the contract calls for salary increases based on funds appropriated for salary increases.
