President Al Goldfarb has announced the composition of the Provost and Academic Vice President Search Committee, as well as the interim duties to be assumed by administrators during the search process.
Provost Joe Rallo will assume his duties as president of Angelo State University in Texas, effective June 1. Goldfarb will oversee the duties of the provost in addition to his duties as president.
Responsibilities for day-to-day functions in the academic vice president's area will be handled by Associate Provost Barb Baily and Assistant Provost Judi Dallinger. In addition to her current duties, Baily will serve as the primary contact for the collective bargaining contract and academic personnel issues and represent the office on senior university-level committees. Dallinger will serve as the provost's office contact on undergraduate student issues.
The search committee, chaired by Faculty Senate Chair Steve Rock, professor of economics, is expected to hold its first session in early April. Goldfarb said he would like to have a new provost on campus by Jan. 15, the start of the Spring 2008 semester.
Members of the committee include representatives, in accordance with University policy, from the following categories: Dean's Council-Bonnie Smith-Skripps, College of Education and Human Services (COEHS); Department Chair Erskine Smith, dietetics, fashion merchandising and hospitality; one faculty member from each college, College of Arts and Sciences-Lori Baker-Sperry, Women's Studies; College of Business and Technology-Kevin Hall, engineering technology; COEHS-Tom Cody, educational and interdisciplinary studies; College of Fine Arts and Communication- Maureen Marx, communication sciences and disorders; two at-large tenured or tenure-track faculty: Library- Felix Chu, and Quad Cities-James Patterson, Executive Studies Center; University Professional of Illinois-John Miller, communication; non tenure-track faculty- Jessica White, sociology/anthropology; Civil Service Employees Council-Carol Harper, Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs; Council of Administrative Personnel- Richard Chamberlain, Center for Application of Information Technologies; Student Government Association Member from Each Campus: Macomb- Annette Glotfelty and Quad Cities- Christine Ciasto; President's discretion additional members: Eric Campbell, director of admissions, and W. Garry Johnson, vice president for student services; Chair of Faculty Senate Rock; and (ex-officio members) Affirmative Action- Cathy Couza, and Faculty Senate Recording Secretary Annette Hamm.
