Campus and community members are invited to join in the celebration of another year of partnership between Western Illinois University and the western Illinois region at the second annual “Celebrating Town & Gown” at The Forum in Macomb.
The event will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25. A program featuring President Al Goldfarb and Macomb Mayor Mick Wisslead will begin at 6:45 p.m. In addition, Alumni Programs will present the WIU Honorary Alumni Award and the Town & Gown Award.
The Honorary Alumni Award is presented to an individual who is not a WIU graduate but who has provided exceptional service to the WIU community. Previous recipients were Bill Brattain (2007), Marilyn Johnson (2005), Dr. Donald Dexter (2004), Mark Martin (2003), Dr. Lawrence (Mel) and Judith Kerr (2002), Charlene Callison (2001), Ed Holzwarth (2000), WIU President Donald Spencer (1999), Senator Laura Donahue (1998), Cathy Early (1997), Dick Miller (1995) and Dennis Iversen (1994).
The Town & Gown Award recognizes an individual who has been instrumental in continuing the partnership between Western and the Macomb community. Charles Gilbert, retired director of Institutional Research and Planning (IRP) at Western, received the inaugural Town & Gown Award in 2007.
