Candidate Withdraws from Pres. Search
Carlos Vargas-Aburto, provost and vice president for academic affairs, Kutztown University, who recently interviewed for the position of Western Illinois University president,
has withdrawn as a candidate, according to David Mead-Fox, of the search firm Korn Ferry.
BOT Approves Projects, Discuss Pres. Search
The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees approved contractors for the heating plant renewal project and the electrical work for Corbin and Olson halls at its
Dec. 17 meeting in Macomb.
Peace Corps Fellows Program Wins National Excellence Award
The University Economic Development Association (UEDA)
recently recognized the WIU Peace Corps Fellows Program with the Award of Excellence in Community Development. PCF Program Manager Karen Mauldin-Curtis noted the award was presented to the PCF Program after a tough finalist competition in Reno (NV), where the UEDA recently held its national summit.

Western's Physical Plant has set
priority snow removal routes to keep WIU walks, lots and pathways clear for pedestrians.

Mark your calendars now for Western Illinois University's Eighth Annual Environmental Summit to be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in the University Union.
Hertz Promo Continues through Jan. 17
Until Jan. 17, 2011, members of the WIU-Macomb community can rent any vehicle through Western's Connect by Hertz program, any time, any day, for $5 an hour. The usual rate for WIU members is $8 an hour to use one of three fuel-efficient vehicles, which include a Toyota Prius, a Toyota Camry and a Mini Cooper.

New Name, Vision for Disability Resources
Beginning January 2011, Disability Support Services (DSS) will become the Disability Resource Center (DRC) at WIU, according to Director Tara Miller.
