Full Schedule of Events for Black History Month Underway
Western Illinois University will offer
a full schedule of events
throughout February focusing on African American history and culture, as well as current issues facing the African American community, for Black History Month 2011. This year's theme is "Sustaining Our Cultural Mecca for a New Era."
President Goldfarb's Most Recent Budget Update
Currently, Western is waiting on FY'11 reimbursements from the State of Illinois of approximately $50 million ($37.6 million, operating funds; $10.4 million, Illinois Student Assistance Commission funds; and $2.4 million, Illinois Veterans Grants). Read the full letter here.
Internet Bandwidth Increased
Internet bandwidth has been increased for the second time in less than a month at Western Illinois University.

Soul Food Festival Tickets On Sale
The 25th Annual Soul Food Festival, sponsored by Western Illinois University's Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center (GBCC) as part of Black History Month festivities, will be held from noon-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20 in the University Union Lincoln Room. Participants are encouraged to select a seating time (12 noon, 1 p.m. or 2 p.m.) when purchasing tickets.
Celebration Concert: The Spring Standards, Feb. 19
The Spring Standards, described as "an energetic force of three-part harmony circling over a rock n' roll sound with an old country aftertaste," will perform as part of Tri States Public Radio's Celebration Concert Series at
7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.
Ethics Officer Change
Larry Kwacala, an attorney with Flack, McRaven & Stephens of Macomb, which is contracted to provide legal services to the University, has been named Ethics Officer for Western Illinois University. More information is available here.
University Libraries Book Sale
University Libraries will host its
annual book sale from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. each day from Monday, Feb. 7 through Thursday, Feb. 10.
Free Health Screenings for Employees
Employee Wellness will sponsor two free health screening events this month.
Retirement Option Available
The Western Illinois University
403b supplemental retirement plan is another avenue to use pretax earnings to save for retirement and reduce your taxable income.

Civil Service Employee of the Month
Diane Billeter, a library specialist in the Leslie F. Malpass Library, is the WIU Civil Service Employee of the Month for January.
Harris Retirement Reception
A retirement reception for Al Harris, associate vice president for student services and undergraduate admissions director, will be held from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 in the University Union Lamoine Room.
