Evaluation Findings
The Counselor Education Department is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and was the first counselor education program accredited in Illinois in 1987. Because of CACREP accreditation, WIU Counselor Education Department graduates and interns are automatically eligible to sit for the National Board for Certified Counselors examination and meet many of the requirements for various state licensures and certifications.
The school counseling track is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education as well as by the Illinois and Iowa State Boards of Education (ISBE) and the Iowa Educational Examiners Board.
Both CACREP and ISBE have new standards. The Department prides itself on its excellent compliance with these standards.
