Current Procedures for Placing Student Teachers
One Year in Advance on Both Campuses:

Meet with students as a group to review application.

Discuss with students placement procedures and guidelines.

Discuss student essay.
10 months out:
- Coordinator reviews student application essays.
9 months out:
- Coordinator and/or University Supervisors meet with individual students to discuss application information and placement location requests.
8-9 months out:
- Coordinator sends applications to University Supervisors.
7-8 months out:
- University Supervisors review applications and group them according to where students identify they will be residing while student teaching.
- Students are matched to schools in the same general vicinity following the guidelines, but not placed in building student attended.
Mentor Teacher Qualifications
- Hold a standard or master teaching certificate and is fully qualified in his/her area.
- Has achieved tenure in the district.
- Holds an appropriate Masters Degree or is enrolled in a Masters program.
- Participates in Clinical Experience Program Assessment Training provided by WIU.
- Has been rated as “Exceeding Expectation” on most recent evaluation.
- Models the effective use of technology as a teaching tool.
Applications and transcripts are delivered to the schools. Waiting period begins.
5-6 months out:
- University Supervisors resubmit applications to another district if students are rejected.
3-4 months out:
- Meet with the students on campus to identify their specific placement the semester before student teaching.
One month out:
- Coordinator sends letters to students confirming their student teaching placement.
