Our Reading Specialist Graduate Program has been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. The program is designed for teachers seeking the K-12 Reading Specialist endorsement. The Reading Specialist Endorsement in Illinois may be issued as an endorsement on an existing Early Childhood, Elementary, Special or Secondary certificate for service at the grade level of the certificate.  This program also provides the coursework needed to earn a K-12 Reading Specialist Endorsement in Iowa.  Reading Specialists can teach reading and provide technical assistance or professional development for teachers.  Courses are offered in Macomb, Quad Cities, and Springfield, IL.

Coursework needed to earn the Reading Teacher Endorsement in Illinois and Iowa is included in the Master of Science in Education with a major of Reading Specialist.  A master’s degree is not required to earn the Reading Teacher Endorsement in Illinois or Iowa. Teachers seeking the Illinois reading teacher endorsement must have their transcripts evaluated by the Illinois State Board of Education.
