Summer Youth Programs Schedule

WIU offers hands-on learning opportunities for elementary through high school students interested in science, art, math, and film. Below are schedules with information on typical activities for each of our summer youth programs.


Discovering the World through Science, Grades 10-11

This program, offered through the College of Arts and Sciences, explores math, geology, neurosicence, meteorology, nursing, chemistry, physics, and psychology in a hands-on learning environment. An astronomy viewing as well as geology and biology field trips are included as part of the program. Sample Schedule.

 

Art for Gifted & Talented Students, Grades 4-6

This program offers classes in airbrush, drawing, painting, computer art, and three-dimensional expression for the gifted and motivated art student. This program includes swimming and other supervised recreational activities in the afternoons and evenings. Sample Schedule.


Art for Gifted & Talented Students, Grades 6-8

This program offers classes in airbrush, drawing, painting, computer art, and three-dimensional expression for the gifted and motivated art student. The program also includes swimming, bowling, and other supervised recreational activities. Sample Schedule.


Girls Plus Math, ages 11-13

This program provides a supportive, cooperative environment for girls to study math. It encourages girls to study math and science as well as explore and consider mathematics-related careers. The program features a hands-on approach to math study, including creative projects, group activities, and problem-solving. Each participant builds a webpage using what she has learned during the week. Supervised recreational activities are included as part of the program. Sample Schedule.
