Accessing Your Online Course
Online courses at WIU follow the same academic calendar as traditional on-campus classes; online courses begin on the first day of the term and end on the last day of the term. Typically, assess to an online course is first available on the first day of the term. Although students may access the course website and do homework 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, each course has specific deadlines and due dates for assignments and exams. Please contact the course instructor with any questions regarding deadlines and due dates.
All online courses at Western Illinois University are accessed via the WesternOnline web site. From the WIU Home page (wiu.edu) place your cursor over the “Web Tools” link located in the upper right corner of the wiu.edu web site to display a drop down menu. Click on WesternOnline or type “WesternOnline” in your web browser.
Login is completed using your Ecom Username and the password you created when you activated your student email account. Students MUST activate their email account in order to log into any online course. To access your online course, you must login with your Ecom Username and password. Enter the course web site by clicking on the appropriate link in the "Course List" area on the page.
The WesternOnline login screen also has an option to participate in the on-screen tutorials to get familiar with the many features utilized by WesternOnline. After logging into WesternOnline, on the right side of the screen, scroll down to Student Resources in the purple heading. Midway down this section, it says "Student Resources for Online Learning". Here are multiple links for tutorials. Explore the four interactive tutorials to learn more about navigating WesternOnline.
Note: Please ensure you are using an effective and current version of antivirus software. Western Illinois University provides antivirus software free to currently enrolled WIU students. Students with an Ecom Username can visit www.wiu.edu/virus/NAV/ for further information.
