Warren Jones' areas of primary interest are state and local public finance issues, macroeconomics, and social security. In 1983, he published a major article on the social security debate in the American Economic Review. Most current research centers on state and local public finance with emphasis on user charges and fiscal responses by municipalities to budgetary stresses. In addition to basic research, Warren has also done applied research. One such project was for the Governor's Task Force on the Future of Rural Illinois. This work centered on economic development and transportation issues. Warren Jones is currently serving as Chairperson of the Economics Department.
