  • Responsibilities:

    Employees at this level perform creative tasks and digital maintenance under the direct supervision from a designated supervisor. The Social Media Coordinator oversees official University social media platforms, including gathering and producing content; trains and coordinates various departments on social media platforms; understands the digital environment, social media and evolving tools and platforms used to improve online presence; produces artwork for a variety of media, including online/digital, using programming, design and layout software as assigned; develops creative and impactful methods of utilizing digital and traditional methods of communication to promote and market based on strategic goals; possesses video production and editing skills; has knowledge of University departments and events to respond to inquiries via social media, as well as publicize events via social media; selects images and other content as assigned; and designs support graphics as assigned.

    • Plans for, conceptualizes, coordinates, and administers official University social media platforms, including Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter, among others.
    • Designs, creates, updates, and maintains the University's official social media platforms to promote and market the University to prospective and current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors, and the general public.
    • Designs and develops highly specialized social media/digital/web graphics, content, and advanced layouts.
    • Works closely with University Marketing and Admissions to aggregate, curate, and steward the Western Illinois University brand.
    • Creates social media campaign images, and other design-related projects for University-wide initiatives and to ensure brand consistency.
    • Partners with departments throughout campus to ensure brand consistency throughout social media media/digital platforms.
    • Produces art work/graphics for a variety of media, including online, digital, and print, using programming, design, and layout software.
    • Retrieves, creates, and conceptualizes social media content through videography and photography.
    • Edits with appropriate professional video editing and photography editing software for various platforms and University websites, and researches emerging technologies, including social media platforms, to determine appropriate  audiences to target with such technologies and social media initiatives.
    • As needed, attends communication and marketing meetings. Attends conferences, workshops, and trainings to gain additional design, accessibility, and technical knowledge and skills.
  • Required Qualifications:


    1. Bachelor’s degree in web design and development, graphic design, communication, marketing, public relations or a closely related discipline
  • Starting Salary: $2,632/month
