Richard Moreno is Director of Student Publications and adjunct professor in the English and Journalism Department at Western Illinois University.
He has a masters degree from the Columbia University School of Journalism and a bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of California at Davis.
He is the former publisher of Nevada Magazine and author of nine Nevada-related books, including Nevada Curiosities, published in December 2008 by Globe-Pequot Press and Mysteries and Legends of Nevada, to be released in December 2009. He is currently at work on a history of Nevada's state capital, Carson City, for the University of Nevada Press.
Winner of the 2007 Nevada Writers Hall of Fame Silver Pen Award, Moreno teaches Introduction to Mass Communications and Magazine and Feature Writing.
Moreno serves as the adviser to the Western Courier student newspaper, which earned five awards from the Illinois College Press Association in 2009, including First Place for Best Sports Column, Second Place for Best Sports Photo and Second Place for Best Non-film Criticism.
In 2009, Moreno was awarded a McCormick Foundation Scholarship to attend the NewsTrain/Midwest Press Institute training and development workship in St. Louis.
