Journalism Day
This year's Journalism Day will focus on "News in a climate of change: New news for audiences who don't read print."
October 30, 2006
9:00am to 12:00pm
Capitol Rooms and Sandburg Theater, University Union.
This topic is a spin-off from an article featured in The Nation magazine. The article points out that besides the danger the press faces from overzealous prosecutors and an uncooperative government, the media themselves have been manipulated to essentially swamp the public with stories about the Ramsey murder, polygamists and more. In other words, the problem is not so much censorship but rather—overload.
Journalism Day will feature a panel of three local newspeople (11:00am-12:00pm.):
- Rajah Maples -- KHQA television at Quincy;
- Herb Trix -- WVIK-FM in the Quad Cities;
- Roland Klose -- "Illinois Times" at Springfield.
