Postcolonial theory; Diasporic South Asian literature
Shazia Rahman was born in Pakistan and grew up in Alberta, Canada. In addition to the U.S., she has lived in Algeria and Malta, always shuttling back and forth from these various locations to Pakistan. In August 2002, she joined the WIU Department of English and Journalism after completing her Ph.D. from the University of Alberta. Now she teaches postcolonial literature and theory. Because of her history of crossing borders as a woman, she is particularly interested in how people deal with shifting identities, multiple allegiances, and power and conflict. Her work has appeared in Ariel, Lit, Amerasia Journal, The Toronto Review and Open Letter.
