Student Organizations

WIU students participate in a wide variety of activities, creating publications such as the literary magazine Elements, and participating in student organizations listed below.

Elements
Western's student literary magazine, published annually.
English Graduate Organization (EGO)
Advocacy, networking, professional development, and social events for English graduate students.
Film Club
Students who appreciate international, independent, and Hollywood cinema.
National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ-WIU)
WIU chapter of NABJ, an organization of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide.
National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
The largest organization of English teachers in the US.
Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
Since Spring 1991, PRSSA has provided WIU students studying Public Relations with a variety of opportunities for learning professional skills, networking, and many other activities.
Sigma Tau Delta
The English honor society.
Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ)
The nation’s most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior.
Western Advertising Federation (WAF)
Activities for students interested in advertising, including workshops, internships, and scholarship opportunities.
