Student Organizations
WIU students participate in a wide variety of activities, creating
publications such as the literary magazine Elements, and participating in student organizations listed below.

- Western's student literary magazine, published annually.
- English Graduate Organization (EGO)
- Advocacy, networking, professional development, and social events for English graduate students.
- Film Club
- Students who appreciate international, independent, and Hollywood cinema.
- National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ-WIU)
- WIU chapter of NABJ, an organization of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide.
- National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
- The largest organization of English teachers in the US.
- Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
- Since Spring 1991, PRSSA has provided WIU students studying Public Relations with a variety of opportunities for learning professional skills, networking, and many other activities.
- Sigma Tau Delta
- The English honor society.
- Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ)
- The nation’s most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior.
- Western Advertising Federation (WAF)
- Activities for students interested in advertising, including workshops, internships, and scholarship opportunities.
