j evensonDr. Janet Evenson teaches a variety of fashion merchandising courses including textile science and costume history.  Currently, she is the faculty advisor for the Visual and Apparel Merchandising Organization for fashion merchandising students, and the curator of the department’s historic costume and accessories collection.  Previously an assistant professor at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, Dr. Evenson taught textile science, fashion design, and computer aided-design.  Additional courses taught at the university level include apparel quality analysis, flat pattern design, and clothing construction.

Dr. Evenson earned her PhD in 2003 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), focusing on historic textiles and clothing, fashion design, and museum studies.  The focal point of her dissertation research was longevity of selected materials used in textiles and apparel.  She holds an MS in textile science from The University of Georgia and a BA in fashion merchandising from Utah State University.

Dr. Evenson’s professional experience includes retail management at Kmart and as a buyer’s assistant at ZCMI, a former Western regional department store.  While at the UNL she was a curatorial assistant for the historic and ethnographic textile collection in the department of Textiles, Clothing and Design and a research assistant for UNL’s Textile Testing Service. 

Dr. Evenson is a member of International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) where she has had several designs shown in juried exhibitions and fashion shows.  She is also a member of American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC).  Her research results have been presented at conferences for both ITAA and the American Institute for Conservation Textile Specialty Group.
