Nancy Neeley Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality Schlarship

Ms. Nancy Neeley graduated from Western Illinois University in Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality and did her graduate work at Columbia University, New York. She taught in the Department of Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality for most of her professional life. She returned to Columbia University for post graduate work. She redirected her expertise in the area of child development, family life, and gerontology. Ms. Neeley served as the president of the Illinois Vocational Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Association and the Illinois Vocational Association.

The Nancy Neeley Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality Scholarship was established from contributions made by alumni, faculty, friends and family in recognition of her contribution to the students and the profession.

Attached is the application form for the Nancy Neeley Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality Scholarship. Applications must complete the application and provide the required documentation indicated.

To be eligible for the Nancy Neeley Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality Scholarship, all applicants must:

  1. Be a major in Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality at Western Illinois University
  2. Be full-time students during the scholarship period
  3. Demonstrate dependability, leadership and service
  4. Show evidence of intent to graduate from the University
To be eligible as an incoming freshman, the applicant must:
  1. Be a high school graduate in the upper 20% of his/her graduating class OR have an ACT of 20 or above
  2. Be registered as a full-time student at Western Illinois University
To be eligible as a sophomore, the applicant must:
  1. Be a full-time student at WIU when applying
  2. Be classified as a sophomore at WIU for the entire year of the scholarship
  3. Have attained a cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or above
  4. Have completed at least 6 semester hours in Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality
To be eligible, transfer students must:
  1. Have a high school ACT of 20 or above OR attained a cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or above from a previous college or university
  2. Be registered as a full-time student at WIU when applying
Sophomore transfer students must:
  1. Have completed at least 6 semester hours in Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality
  2. Be classified as having sophomore academic status at WIU for the entire year of the scholarship
In addition to completing the application form, the student must submit a transcript(s) when applying. Freshmen: high school transcript must indicate class rank and ACT score. Sophomores and transfer: students must submit a WIU transcript and/or transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

Freshmen: a total of three letters of recommendation are to be from:

  1. Either high school home economics teacher or principal
  2. The other two letters may be from a school administrator, teacher, community organization sponsor or employer
  3. Letters of recommendation are to address the applicant's dependability, leadership and service
Sophomore and transfer: three letters of recommendation are to be from
  1. Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising, and Hospitality faculty member addressing leadership and service within the Department and University or college
  2. An employer or community organization sponsor addressing evidence of service within the community or university/college
All applications must be recieved by the Department by March 1.
