FYE Awards

Help us recognize the amazing students, faculty and staff who continually go above and beyond when working with first year experience students by nominating them for an FYE Award.  The FYE Awards are given out in April at the FYE End of the Year Reception!

2015-2016 FYE Award Winners.
Associate Provost Nancy Parsons, Casey LaFrance (FYE Y Instructor of the Year), Brenna Smith (FYE Peer Mentor of the Year), Joe Roselieb (FYE Building Connections Mentor of the Year), Rachel Eaton (FYE Resident Assistant of the Year), Andrea Riebling (FYE Advisor of the Year), JB Biernbaum (FYE University 100 Instructor of the Year)

Outstanding FYE Y Instructor of the Year Award

This award will be given to a Y faculty member who taught a Y course during the 2015-2016 academic year, displayed excellence in the classroom, used creative teaching methods to assist first year students in their transition to WIU and integrated the mission and goals of the FYE Program throughout his/her course. 

Outstanding FYE University 100 Instructor of the Year Award

This award will be given to a University 100 instructor who taught a UNIV 100 course during the 2015-2016 academic year, displayed excellence in the classroom, used creative teaching methods to assist first year students in their transition to WIU and integrated the mission and goals of the FYE Program throughout his/her course. 

Outstanding First Year Experience Peer Mentor of the Year Award

This award will be given to a First Year Experience peer mentor during the 2015-2016 academic year who displayed excellence in preparation for and support of classroom FYE UNIV 100 course programming.  Additionally, the nominee should have used creative methods for engaging first year students in their transition to WIU and should have integrated the mission and goals of the FYE Program in his or her work. 

Outstanding FYE Resident Assistant of the Year Award

This award will be given to an FYE resident assistant from the 2015-2016 academic year who served on a first year floor and displayed excellence in his/her interactions and programming for first year students, used creative leadership methods to assist first year students in their transition to WIU and integrated the mission and goals of the FYE Program in his or her work.

Outstanding FYE Building Connections Mentor of the Year Award

This award will be given to a university community member who served as a Building Connections Mentor during the 2015-2016 academic year, displayed excellence in his/her interactions and guidance with first year students, used creative and outreach methods to assist first year students in their transition to WIU and integrated the mission and goals of the FYE Program in his or her work. 

Outstanding FYE Advisor of the Year Award

This award will be given to an academic advisor served during the 2015-2016 academic year who displayed excellence in advising (assisting with course selection, exploring major and career options, and facilitating student transition to college).  The nominee must have demonstrated creative and advising methods, reflecting the mission and goals of the FYE Program to assist first-year students in their successful WIU matriculation.
