Mike Allison Recevies ILGISA Student Award
Mike Allison, a senior Geography major, was one of three students to receive a Student Award from the Illinois GIS Association at that organization's Spring Conference April 21 in Springfield, IL.
Mike is majoring in Geography major with a minor in history and an emphasis in forestry. He is currently working in the McDonough County GIS Center, where he has been involved in a variety of projects. Mike’s main responsibility is the maintenance and upkeep of the WIU campus map. Mike is also tasked with the creation of new data layers on a regular basis. Mike has worked on the creation of a campus-wide tree inventory, which will aid courses taught at WIU. His development of a landscape staffing and analysis tool helped the WIU Physical Plant better plan campus maintenance and improvements. Mike has done extensive surveying using RTK GPS to improve the campus digital terrain model. Mike has also participated in collecting road, sign, culvert and bridge location and attribute information.
