Welcome to Western Illinois University!

We are pleased to welcome you to the Western Illinois University (WIU) community! Western has a rich tradition of enrolling students from around the world. Each year we have students representing more than 60 countries taking classes from WIU.

Our international support team is here to help prepare you for your arrival in Macomb and help you settle in to living and studying at WIU. To prepare new international students WIU hosts the New International Student Orientation.  The event takes place the week before the semester begins. During Orientation students will participate in events and activities to help them adjust and feel at home at WIU. Students will experience genuine American culture and make new friends from around the world. The International Student Guide is available on our website and is filled with information about what you should bring to campus and what to expect when you arrive on campus. The comprehensive guide has information about immigration and visa information, orientation, life at WIU, activities, housing, finances, student organizations such as the International Friendship Club, the Macomb community, holidays, laws, and culture. We hope you will find this guide useful throughout your time at Western. You can also contact one of our International Student Ambassadors with any questions you might have.

So whether you want to earn a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, or enroll in intensive English language instruction, Western Illinois University has accredited academic programs, cultural opportunities, and the student support services you need to be successful in reaching your educational goals.
