Costa Rica is a nation that has taken upon itself to sustain and protect its global endowment of natural wealth. The country also enjoys a system of authentic democracy and political tranquility. This program gives participants the opportunity to develop their social, political, and economic awareness and understanding of current and emerging world issues. Visiting Costa Rica will expose students to agriculture, business, and tourism industries within another country and within a humid tropical region which cannot be found within the United States. They will be surrounded by a culture that speaks the Spanish language. Staying at EARTH and participating in activities with the faculty and students will immerse them in a cross-cultural experience. In addition, this program promotes international learning and awareness with a connection to the business world. During the time in Costa Rica, participants will be able to investigate the development of the county economically, environmentally, and socially. Native soils, crops, livestock, and plants will be studied, especially their relationships to economic importance, distribution, and environment. The Costa Rican viewpoint on trade will be put into perspective and compared the US view of importing and exporting. Participants will better understand the economic and agricultural bases of the country, the political structure of the Costa Rican government and how it relates to ours, and the culture of the Costa Rican people.
