The Department of Kinesiology offers the Master of Science degree in Kinesiology. The broad mission of the degree program is to assist students in developing conceptual and theoretical understandings and to obtain knowledge and skills which will prepare them as researchers/scholars, practitioners, or administrators in their respective areas. Typically, a full-time student will complete the requirements for the degree in two years. Within the Kinesiology program, students may select to pursue in-depth study in the following areas: (1) exercise science, (2) wellness promotion and fitness management, (3) pedagogy (includes adapted physical education), and (4) sport and exercise psychology.
Graduates from the MS degree program in Kinesiology have obtained professional positions in both the private and public sectors in a variety of health-related settings. In addition, many of our graduates have elected to pursue further advanced degrees within the field of kinesiology. Courses in the Kinesiology department are taught by faculty members who hold degrees earned from universities across the United States and who are actively engaged in scholarship activities such as writing book chapters and books, conducting research, and making scholarly presentations at professional conferences. Some of the faculty members hold certifications offered through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
