activityWestern Illinois Lincoln Academy Student Laureate:  Julia Remes

Julia Remes, was selected as the Western Illinois University’s recipient of the 2007 Lincoln Academy of Illinois Student Laureate Award.  Annually, each of the four-year degree-granting institutions in Illinois select  one senior  for outstanding academic excellence and extracurricular activities for this prestigious Award.  Ms.Remes  hails from Arden Hills, Minnesota and is  majoring in political science with a pre-law minor.  She is a fourth-year goalkeeper on the Westerwinds intercollegiate soccer team.  This semester, she was the student coordinator for Western’s “The Road to the White House” mock presidential election.  CONGRATULATIONS, JULIA!
Peace And Security Summit
Jordan Smith was selected to attend the Peace and Security Summit at the University of Minnesota.  This Summit is sponsored by Americans for Informed Democracy with The Stanley Foundation and the Education Policy and Administration Student Association at the University of Minnesota.  The focus of this summit will be: New Approaches to Armed Conflict in the 21st Century:  Lessons from Darfur, Rwanda, and Bosnia.  Attendees will examine how the international community can respond to the pressing issue of peacekeeping and its tactics.
