Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity

The purpose of this Phi Alpha Delta Western Illinois University Pre-Law Fraternity Chapter shall be to form a strong bond uniting students and teachers of the law with members of the Bench and Bar in a fraternal fellowship designed to advance the ideals of liberty and equal justice under law; to stimulate excellence in scholarship; to inspire the virtues of compassion and courage; to foster integrity and professional competence; to promote the welfare of its members; and to encourage their moral, intellectual, and cultural advancement; so that each member may enjoy a lifetime of honorable professional and public service.

We shall work to assist our members in making an informed choice in pursuing law as a career and help them to prepare for the rigors of law school.

 

Membership Eligibility Requirements

Any student who is in attendance and in good standing at Western Illinois University shall be accepted into pre-law membership of this Fraternity as a student member of this chapter upon completion of a membership application, submission of the membership fee, and participating in the Initiation Ceremony.  There is no required, or preferred, major, minor, or GPA to apply for membership.  All those interested in law, in any capacity, are welcome to join.

Membership Fee Increase Update
The Fraternity has altered the upcoming fee increase and structure in response to your concerns. This will help your chapter better adapt to the fees.  Here is the new structure:

  • As of January 1, 2009 the Pre-Law Initiation Fee will be $100.
  • For Pre-Law Members who join between January 1, 2009 and August 1, 2009, they will only have to pay the one-time $100 Initiation Fee.
  • Members who join after August 1, 2009 will pay the $100 Initiation Fee and a $70 Annual Maintenance Fee.  This fee will be due each subsequent year by August 1st.
  • Members who are PENDING PAYMENT who have not paid their initiation fee in fiscal year 2008 will have to pay the $100 Initiation Fee.  So, if your chapter is holding onto membership fees, please have them postmarked BEFORE January 1, 2009.

The implementation of the annual membership maintenance fee has been postponed until August 1, 2009 by the International Executive Board in response to the current economic situation.                    

  • The membership maintenance fee and initiation fee are not the same thing;
  • Neither are being applied retroactively; 
  • If you are a member and have received your membership materials this does not affect you.

Chapter Meetings

Meetings are held every Thursday at 4:00pm in the Malpass Library on the fourth floor, “Legal and Government Publications” section.  We meet near the computers at the large conference table under the “Legal Reference” sign.  Our meetings are open to the public
