Jazz Soloist Competition

The Jazz Soloist Competition will provide a forum for the development of Jazz Performance on the Horn.

Each soloist must perform a 15 minute program including:

1. Blues in F--with accompaniment provided:
   Now's the Time—(Charlie Parker)

2. One of the following Jazz Standards:
   All the Things You Are
   Days of Wine and Roses
   Autumn Leaves

3. An original unaccompanied improvised solo based on a harmonic progression to be sight-read at the competition.

PRELIMINARY ROUND

Each applying soloist will submit a high quality recording. This recording must include the required repertoire selections in Categories 1 and 2 from the above list. (See the attached Application Form).

FINAL ROUND

Up to eight soloists will be selected for The Final Round on Saturday, June 6th.

• Each soloist will receive adjudicated comments on their performance.
• One soloist will receive a cash prize of $250.
• One soloist will be selected to perform on the final Symposium Concert on Sunday, June 7, 2009
