A Call for Proposals -- CONTRIBUTING ARTISTS and CLINICIANS
International Horn Symposium 41, Western Illinois University
June 2-7, 2009
- Applicants should send a detailed outline of the proposed presentation—including timing, topic, content, and methods of presentation.

This outline should state the categories of presentations being proposed:
- Lecture (25 min. or 50 min.)
- Clinic (25 min.)
- Performance of a specific composition on a Symposium Recital—with interest in works for Solo/Unaccompanied) Horn(s)
- Performance of works winning the International Horn Society Composition Contest or recipient of Meir Rimon Composition Commission
- Performers should submit a high quality recording of a performance commensurate with the one proposed. (As some compositions will be premieres, the SAME works do NOT need to appear on the recording as those proposed for the Symposium. However, the recording should accurately represent the current performance of the performers and the work(s) being proposed.) Recordings will NOT be returned.
- Lectures may include topics on the following:
- Performance skills (techniques, styles, and psychology)
- Instruments, mouthpieces, mutes, and related equipment
- Horn Methods, Materials, Literature and History
- Clinics may include the following suggested topics:
- Horn Technique—including—New Insights on Development of Traditional Techniques and Development of Extended Techniques
- Practice and Preparation of Study Materials
- Clinics on Preparation of Audition Passages for Bands and Orchestras
- Performance Skills including Recital Preparation
- How to Improvise –Jazz and Classical Improvisation
- How to get started on the Natural Horn, Alphorn, or Wagner Tuba
- Proposals must include all technical set up information—including lists and diagrams for music stands, chairs, audio-visual equipment, etc.
- Applicants must be members of The International Horn Society at the time of the application.
- Contributing Artists must be registered for the week of the International Horn Symposium.
- The 41st International Horn Symposium and The International Horn Society are not responsible for any financial arrangements to support the expenses of Contributing Artists. Commercial endorsements are prohibited by the policies of The International Horn Society.
