Employee Spotlight Barb Slater

Barb Slater

Administrative Nurse III
Beu Health Center

"Miracles happen every day, change your perception of what a miracle is, and you'll see them all around you." –Jon Bon Jovi

Barb began her career at Western Illinois University in January 2005 as an Extra-help, Staff Nurse II in Beu. In August 2005, she was hired into a certified Staff Nurse II position and has progressively promoted to her current position since then. Barb’s duties include serving as the Nursing Supervisor, maintaining clinic and physicians’ schedules, in charge of immunizations, compliance, and serves as a CPR Instructor.

For twenty-five years, Barb has been a nurse, and always wanted to work for WIU. She enjoys seeing students learn about their health. Working with the students is what Barb likes most about her job. In addition, she likes the employees she works with at the Health Center. She shared, “We have a great team and we work well together.” There have been several people in Barb’s life that have pushed her forward. “I obtained my BA after I came to Western. I like learning and taking classes.”

When her nurse’s “hat” is not on, Barb enjoys spending time with her four children and four grandchildren. Any time with family is a good time! They enjoy boating and swimming as long as they can do it as a family!

HR salutes Barb Slater as one of our many committed Civil Service employees at WIU!
