Employee Spotlight Dan Spangler

Dan Spangler

Shipping/Receiving Clerk
Facilities Management Stores

"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do those things to other people and I require the same from them." –John Wayne from The Shootist

Dan works in the Facilities Management Stores Operation as a Shipping/Receiving Clerk. He began his career at WIU in March 2012 as an Extra-Help Route Driver. He was then hired through the Intern Program as a Shipping/Receiving Clerk and completed that program in October 2012.

Dan's primary responsibilities include receiving freight for the university and mechanical maintenance department. "I move pallets with the fork lift, unload trucks, and work in the store as time permits." The thing Dan enjoys most about his job is that there is something different to do most every day, and that things are always changing. I work with a great bunch of people here; we all get along well with each other. Kathy Coats and Linda Windsor are excellent to work with. It is fast-paced and we get the job done!"

One of Dan's favorite things to do at WIU is to participate in the ROTC charity shoots. He shared, "I even won last time!" When he is not working, Dan enjoys hunting deer in the fall, watching sprint car races, and playing with his three grandkids!

NOTE: When Dan was asked to have his picture taken for this Employee Spotlight, he asked that his photo be taken with his fellow co-workers, Kathy and Linda. Who am I to argue with a man on a fork lift?

HR salutes Dan Spangler as one of our many committed Civil Service employees at WIU!
