ArcVoyager

ArcVoyager software has been developed by ESRI to introduce teachers and students to Geographic Information Systems.  The ArcVoyager program runs on Windows and Macintosh with little difference.  The software consists of four levels of tutorials and accompanying data files to help users familiarize themselves with the software. The help files are written broadly to a "junior high" level, but ArcVoyager is being used effectively by elementary teachers, middle school students, high schoolers, librarians, college instructors, museum professionals, and parents.

The goal of ArcVoyager is to give students and teachers a ramped approach for developing their spatial thinking and learning how to employ ArcView tools. ArcVoyager is not a curriculum. ArcVoyager is a toolkit that is ready to be used to support an educator’s existing curriculum, and open doors to new ways of learning.

ArcVoyager Special Edition

To run ArcVoyager, you need to purchase ArcView GIS software or you can request the free ArcVoyager Special Edition. This special edition contains the critical elements of ArcView software and ArcVoyager data.  The ArcView software is available as a single-users license for $1500.  For an educational discount call ESRI Telebusiness at 1-800-447-9778 to find out if you qualify for an educational discount. 

ArcVoyager Special Edition allows you to explore far and wide ... adding data, printing maps, querying themes, and almost all the standard ArcVoyager activities. Compared with the regular edition of ArcVoyager, the only limitations in the Special Edition are that it cannot save project files, shapefiles, or data files; and it cannot open other ArcView projects.  You can still print, capture screen shots, and analyze endlessly.

People may install ArcVoyager Special Edition on any number of stand-alone computers that are robust enough for GIS, but where ArcView is not yet installed.

Download the appropriate install file. Each contains the runtime software, data, projects, and help file. Be sure to select the file for your platform. Also, note that these are VERY LARGE DOWNLOADS!

After downloading, unstuff the file and engage "ArcVoyager Installer." It will guide you through installation. Be sure to read the file "READ ME" in the "VOYAGER" directory.

After downloading, unzip the file and engage "setup.exe." It will guide you through installation. Be sure to read the file "README.TXT" in the "VOYAGER" directory.
