Gateway’s New Convertible Notebook

Earlier this year Gateway introduced its newest model of Convertible Notebooks, the Gateway® M285-E.  This Convertible Notebook combines the power of a laptop and the versatility of a Tablet PC with a 14” widescreen display.  Like most Tablet PCs, the M285-E allows you to draw right on the screen with a stylus and interact with several different mobile software titles. Although the flexibility of the Tablet PC often comes as a trade off with the processing speed, optical drive and battery life, this is not so with the M285-E Convertible Notebook. It gives you the best of both worlds: power, speed and flexibility.

Processing Power

The M285-E can be ordered with Intel’s latest mobile processor, the 2.0 Ghz Intel Core Duo T2500 and it can hold up to 4 GB memory.  The new Intel chip set gives the Gateway Convertible Notebook the power jump needed to perform multiple computer tasks simultaneously.  Now with greater processing power, more applications can be run at the same time and allow the user get more done faster.

Faster Graphics and Wider Display

Boasting a 14” widescreen display, the M285-E enables users more room to work.  With a screen size resembling that of a standard pad of notebook paper, writing with the stylus seems more natural.  In addition to the bigger screen, the M285-E comes with a faster dedicated graphics card.  This provides better visual response and video playback than most Tablet PCs and it also brings the M285-E up to par with some of the standard laptops.

Extreme Mobility and Flexibility

With a battery life up to 8.5 hrs and WiFi capabilities utilizing Intel Centrino Mobile Technology, the M285-E will hold a charge long enough for you to fly coast-to-coast and keep you connected.  One of biggest complaints about using the M285-E is the extra weight the batteries add. This might be a fair trade for the longer battery life if you want to use it to replace a laptop.  Although the Convertible Notebook may not be as light and slim as its cousin, the Tablet PC, it does gives you much more freedom than a normal notebook.  Not only can you write notes down like on a pad of paper, but you can quick swivel the display around and start typing using a full-sized keyboard.

Convertible Notebook?

Overall the Gateway M285-E Convertible Notebook will meet most Tablet PC and laptop users needs.  It may not be as sleek as a Tablet PC, but with the added processing speed, better graphics card and enhanced mobility, you will be glad to have one help you bridge the gap between laptops and Tablet PCs.
